Frequently Asked

Questions

What is the difference between Chiropractors, Physiotherapists or Sports Therapist and Osteopaths?

Whilst there are many similarities the main difference is that Chiropractors focus on the connection between the nervous system and the spine.

Chiropractors are trained to take and interpret X-Rays whereas the others are not.

If you trust your practitioner and their care, then you should stick with them.

Is treatment painful?

No, treatments are usually painless.

Like any new work out it may take time for the muscles and ligaments to get used to it and they may ache a little, but this is entirely normal.

If you do feel a little sore, applying a cool pack to the affected area on and off for  5 – 10 minutes following a treatment will help.

What is the ‘popping’ sound that I can hear?

This is the release of gas between the joints. When joints become restricted they lose their mobility. The popping shows that the tension and pressure have been released.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear clothes that are comfortable and allow you to move freely.

You will not need to undress for your chiropractic treatment.

For your sports therapy sessions you may be asked to remove some clothing if required,  we can provide a freshly laundered gown.

Your comfort is of utmost importance, please do feel free to bring a chaperone if you wish.

Minors must be accompanied to appointments.

What Should I bring to a first appointment?

Please bring any details of medications, medical reports or scans that you may have. These are very useful to your practitioner.

How many sessions will I need? How long do they take?

Everyone heals at a different rate and many factors influence how quickly you will start to see progress and begin to recover.

Different conditions require different amounts of treatment, your chiropractor or sports therapist will discuss this with you after your first appointment.

Your practitioner will advise you how long your treatment will be expected to last based on what is needed.

Most chiropractic treatments usually last between 10 – 15 minutes (extended when needed).

Sports therapy sessions usually take between 20 – 40 minutes.

What happens if I need further investigations such as X-rays or MRI scans?

Your chiropractor will let you know if  X-rays are clinically required, these will be done on site.

Should your sports therapist suggest an X-ray is needed, you will also receive a complementary check up from the chiropractor before your X-ray is taken.

If an MRI is necessary, you will be referred to your GP.

Is chiropractic care available on the NHS?

No. All our sessions are on a private basis.
